Aging Is Your Magic

I get an email from Google every month reporting the search terms people have used to land on my website. Top of the list is often “nicole meline age”, so I thought it would be fun to do a blog post and a video as a direct answer. I do the same thing—wonder about the age of people who inspire me. That curiosity is really about these questions: Can I trust this person? Have they lived long enough to draw from deep experience? Do they know what it’s like to live in a body over 35, or over 45? And when it’s an entrepreneur or an artist, that curiosity is really about these questions: Could I do that? Is there still time for me? Could I grow into that? Does this dream have an age limit?

I believe there is no expiration dates on our dreams. The shapes they take may change as years pass; they may look different—probably better—but there is no expiration date.

I believe aging is our superpower. Our wellspring of wisdom and discernment.

For women especially, this is a rebellious belief. A revolutionary vision. We feel the pressure of the ageist patriarchy making a case against our value as the years pass. And our rejection of this story is our superpower. Valuing the youth of women has much to do with wanting the naïveté of women. To value our age, and the evidence of it on our bodies, is to trust the infinite value of our wisdom and the power of our voice, in all of its creative forms.

I made this video ALTER podcast episode about my vision of aging just after a recent birthday, & a series of videos about my favorite practices for self-care and longevity. I also created a collection of resources called Aging Powerfully, to build your strength and your revolutionary vision of aging as “sage-ing.” I’d love to invite you to both, and to hear your thoughts.
