Why “spirited” leadership?
Our world is in unprecedented need of visionary leadership that reaches beyond our fears into our resilient hopes, into the soul of our common humanity, or in Abraham Lincoln’s words, “the better angels of our nature.”
Leadership that values its community’s vitality above spotlighting a leader. Less a cult of personality; more a culture of collaboration.
Leadership that ignite our spirits.
The word “spirited” offers a model of the duality we need:
Charisma with Integrity
Spirited has two meanings:
“the soulful essence; the non-physical substance of a person or place”
“a strong sense of direction, assertiveness, and confidence,” as in a “spirited horse”
The image of a horse and rider is a powerful icon of spirited leadership. It is a relationship of sacred trust. A horse—especially a spirited horse—will only consent to be led or ridden if it trusts a rider to collaborate with it. To listen to it, honor its intuitions and signals, learn its needs. A horse and rider in trustful communication is one of the great harmonies of the world.
Similarly, a leader and a community in collaboration move in a continual exchange of energy and communication.
Spirited leadership is both audacious and humble.
A blend of courage and service.
This course invites you to step fully into your calling as a leader in your communities, regardless of their size or scale: the expanding circles of your family, your business, your country, and the world.
It will equip you to lead with spirit, vision, compassion, and collaboration.
